InTouch PDU™ ; Where Power Meets IT Intelligently |
 |
 |
 |
“The intelligent PDU will keep you in touch with your critical infrastructure and spot power failures before they happen.”
Prism Power’s team of skilled engineers have developed an advanced Power Distribution Unit, combining state-of-the-art critical power engineering with sophisticated monitoring and management technology that allows you the operator to easily control and safeguard vital IT
infrastructures from typical causes of outages, consequently reducing downtime costs and ensuring optimum performance.
The strengths of the InTouch PDU™ as a thoroughly safeguarded solution are further enhanced
by its remarkable adaptability. With this solution you can choose a specifi c confi guration and
size that best suits your requirements.
The InTouch PDU™ solution incorporates facilities that enable businesses to conveniently
access and manage their own critical infrastructures for heightened security and protection.
Comprehensive remote status reporting is supplied via precise and responsive integrated
software, allowing a facilities manager to conveniently access real-time vital readings for
analysis and control. Status reports can be accessed locally from a touch screen or remotely
to any device and destination, limiting potential downtime risks considerably.

Power Monitoring
The clients’ ability to conveniently manage and protect their IT infrastructures from potential
threats has been redefi ned by incorporating sophisticated management capabilities within a
PDU system.
Meters are controlled and examined, which can aid in identifying any faults within the system
that could result in power failure. Another crucial application is the use of thermal monitoring
technology, which can detect electrical failure commonly caused by poor connections. These
cannot be detected via metering or load measurements, power quality etc. However, the
temperature increase can be detected using thermally sensitive devices.
Intelligent monitoring is essential in providing early warning of critical conditions. By
forewarning the outage can be avoided, but if the outage is unavoidable the logged data will
allow you to track back to investigate.
Thermal Monitoring
An additional feature of the InTouch PDU™ is the option for thermal monitoring from
inside the enclosure. Rather than periodic inspections typically carried out once or twice per
year from outside the enclosure, this facility provides continuous trend analysis identifying
potential problems early. Delivery of the data is a straightforward process providing capability
for data logging.
Key connections are directly monitored by small plastic infrared (IR) sensors, which require
no external power and contact Thermal Couplers placed inside the enclosure. These connect
to data cards, which collect condition & transmit the data to the host system.
Security
The PDU is further enhanced with secure access management technology for added safety
measures, along with comprehensive environmental monitoring. A highly advanced iBox
device delivers true plug and play enterprise level Access Control, Intrusion and Environmental
monitoring to further safeguard the PDU, supplying real-time local and remote reporting
and alarms. For added security, cabinets can be locked using integrated locking handles,
enabling the protected doors to only be opened with an authorised Smartcard, or by a
remote operator.
Maintenance
Data from the PDU is easily viewed locally via an integrated user-friendly touch screen panel,
allowing for local automated data transmission, which does not control the PDU, further
minimising the potential for human error. Specially designed software enables easy access to
live and recorded events, delivering data straight-forwardly either locally or to any remote
location.
Environmental Issues
The ICT sector is growing at a faster rate than the aviation industry. In 2006, 48% more data
storage capacity was sold than in the previous year*. This compares to a 3% increase in UK
air travel passengers in the same period**.
By controlling / reducing kilowatt-hour consumption you have the ability to reduce direct
taxation in the form of the Climate Change Levy. Having audited and verifi able fi gures
will enable businesses to preempt government legislation in the form of the forthcoming
Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) leagues. This in turn demonstrates an organisation’s
corporate and social responsibility (CSR) and their green credentials to customers, investors,
shareholders and staff.
